Music and me - part 2

In this post, I am going to list 2 more songs which are not so popular among non-rahmaniacs.

sithirai nilavu - vandicholai chinnarasu

Many of you may not know that ARR has composed music for the film 'vandicholai chinnarasu'. But, many of you may have heard the song 'senthamizh naatu thamizhachiye' which is very famous for its lyrics. But, my pick of the album is 'sithirai nilavu' song. Its a soul-soothing melody. This song gives you a feel similar to what you get when a gentle breeze touches you in a pleasant morning.

Theekuruviyai - kangalal kaidhu sei

Kangalal kaidhu sei album is one of the masterpieces of Rahman. But, it is sad that it remains as one of the most under-estimated albums of ARR. I enjoy each and every song in this album. But, 'theekuruviyai' is my most favorite song in this film. Harini has sung the song very well. Forget about picturization (I virtually cried when I saw the song on TV. Very bad picturization x-( ) But, the song is just awesome. Kudos to the writer for penning lyrics for such a complex tune.

PS: I know nothing about music. I just post my comments on what I like.

My favorite lyrics - part 1

Nenjam ellam (Ayitha eluthu)

"Un kuraigal nan ariyavillai;
Nan arindhal suriyane sutham illai!"

None is perfect in this world. Imperfection is a kind of beauty. A man need not be perfect to win a lady's love. This has been brought out beautifully in the above lines...

Newyork nagaram (Sillu nu oru kadhal)

"Nan inge; Neeyum ange
Indha thanimayil nimishangal varushamanadheno?
Van inge; neelam ange
Indha uvamaiku iruvarum vilakkamanadheno?"
.
.
.
.
"Jil enru boomi irundhum indha tharunathil kulir kalam kodayanatheno?
Va anbe neeyum vandhal sendhanal kooda panikkati pola marume!"

A beautiful metaphor is used to show how the hero misses his sweetheart. This remains as one of my most favorite lyrics...

Funny poem about my 4th sem

Immersed in an ocean of operating systems,
Enduring the torture of system software,
Completely clueless about the theory of computing,
Trying to master the database technology,
Designing and analysing the unknown algorithms,
With lab exams on saturdays,
And much worse vivas on sundays,
With assignments only half done,
With math homeworks never done,
With not-so-good average in internals,
There goes the life of a CSEian in 4th sem in tech....
CSE sucks...
But CSEians do rock for sure...

music and me - part 1

There are quite a lot of songs which have been my favourites. Most of them were composed by A.R.Rahman. In this post, Im going to write about two of my favourite songs.

1. I miss you da
This song from Sakarakatti went almost unnoticed because it was overshadowed by another song from the same album. Taxi taxi was the massive hit of the year and was clearly the most favourite song of the album for many people. But, my personal favourite is 'I miss you da'. Frankly speaking, I disliked this song on my first hearing. But, on repeated hearings, I fell in love this song and this song turned out to be my most favourite song in that album.Rahman has tried a different genre and has succeeded in giving a trendy song. Who would have expected chinmayi to sing a song like this? But she has sung it so beautifully, giving the right feel to the song. This song captures the feelings of a girl who misses her sweetheart. I especially loved the line, "Fm il kadhal padal ketkum bothu........". I was happy about the fact that they show only Vedhika in this song and not the other heroine whom I disliked.

2.Porkalam ange
This is another song which went unnoticed. This song from Tenali sung by Srinivas and Gopika Poornima is one of my all time favourite songs. This is a sweet, melancholic melody with some great lyrics. Again, the female singer has given the right feel to the song. I loved the part when the male and female singers sing together the lines: "unnai engu pirikiren? unakul dhane vazhkiren. Anbil unnai alakiren. Anichai seyalai ninaikiren". I also loved the line, "unaku piditha ulagam vangi unnai angu vaikiren. Nimidam nimidam kanavil ninaivil kudithanam nan seigiren." The song ends on a happier note with the lines, "porkalam illai, poovil kayam illai. Punnagai theevil uyirum thevai illai."

Rahman and Oscar

I am writing this 22 days prior to the announcement of Oscar award results. Feb 22nd is a red-letter day for all Rahman fans. The maestro is all set to grab the Oscar award. At this point, one question arises in everyone's mind. Is SDM the best composition of ARR? Has he not done better albums in the past? Can SDM stand near his own masterpieces like Roja and Dil se?

The problem with ARR is that he has achieved everything very early. The dream of any composer in Indian film industry will be to win a national award. And, Rahman got it in his debut film. Not just once. He received the national award for 5 times. He has set a high standard for himself. People tend to compare each and every composition of Rahman with his own compositions like Roja and criticise him unnecessarily. But, frankly speaking, even his worst composition will be better than the compositions of an average composer. A batsman can't hit a century in every match, right? The same applies to music also. But, we must feel happy for the fact that he has continued to delight us with his soulful numbers even after 18 years. It is not easy to be consistent like him.

SDM is really good. But, its definitely not his best. SDM may not deserve Oscar. But, Rahman surely deserves it. He deserves it for what he has done to Indian music. He deserves it for giving mind-blowing numbers all these years. He deserves it for making the life of millions of his fans pleasant with his music. He is the one who revolutionised Indian music and took it to the next level. As Rahman himself said, he has to win it for India. I wish him all the best. Jai ho, Rahman! :)

2008 was great!

Now, another year has passed by and what a delightful year it has been for me! 2008 was an eventful year in my life with a lot of lessons learnt, different experiences and sweet memories to cherish.
2008 was a year which I will not easily forget. It was in this year I changed myself a lot. The year 2008 completely changed my attitude towards certain things. I started to look at the positive aspects of things. I learned to respect others' thoughts and actions and started observing only good things in people!
2008 also brought me good fortune in several aspects. It was in this year I got my new mobile and more importantly my scooty pep +. :) I also got new, good friends.Topping all these pleasant things, another significant event occurred. I crossed gp 9 for the first time and it brought me boundless joy. There were a lot of reasons to smile in this year. There were a lot of reasons to celebrate... Sachin Tendulkar broke Lara's record and proved that he is the best in the current era. Bgm and two of the songs of A.R.Rahman (from Slumdog millionaire) have been nominated for oscar. He rocked in Ghajini. These two men once again proved how great they are and made a happy and proud fan. What else should I ask for? Im satisfied with whatever happened in this year. Though, there were few incidents which were unpleasant, the other happier incidents make me forget those...
Im beginning the new year hoping that this will be as pleasant and memorable as the last year or may be, more pleasant than 2008. 2008 was great... Welcome 2009!
