This is my last year in college and none would ever want to spend his/her 7th semester like this... The fact that the staffs handling theory are quite 'okay' didn't give us any kind of satisfaction since the elective lab faculty chose to give us all kinds of torture single-handedly. Adding to this misery, we have classes in I block (where you can't take your bag inside :x) and that too in the fourth floor. And we were not allowed to use lifts. A notice above the lift says: lift only for staff(mentally challenged? ;) ) and physically challenged. Our timetable is the worst one can ever frame. No free periods in the afternoon and classes on Saturday too! With 3 main projects (network security project, prelim project work and DCA project) and 8 other projects in elective lab + placement preparations + 7 theory subjects including the fast track, no wonder this semester seems to be a very 'odd' semester...

saranyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03868780570097925258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6069999164462714928.post-74022305531801573192010-01-13T09:57:00.001-08:002010-01-13T11:40:28.751-08:00My experiments with vtv songsI have always wanted Rahman to work with Gautam menon. That's because, Gautam menon is a director who extracts the best out of his music directors (remember, minnale, kaaka kaaka and varanam ayiram). So, naturally I had huge expectations about 'vinnai thandi varuvaya' album. Already, promo of songs hosanna and omana penne had created a great hype for this album. I was eagerly waiting to hear the songs since its music launch in London. Now, that wait is over and I got the opportunity to listen to all the songs.
To be frank, I wasn't much impressed with the songs in the first hearing. All songs sounded just ok. But, Rahman has this magic which works only if you hear his songs repeatedly. Once you get addicted to them, you cannot come out of them for lifetime. The same applies to this album too...
Mannipaya - I thought that this was an ordinary song in my first hearing. There was nothing captivating in the beginning. But, now Im addicted to this song. Shreya Goshal has rendered this song so beautifully with neat tamil pronunciation. And, Rahman soon joins her and makes your heart melt when he sings the lines, "melum melum urugi urugi unai enni yengum idhayathai enna seiven?" I love this song for its lyrics too... There cannot be a more beautiful soothing melody in recent times than this song.
Hosanna - This song is already a great hit. This peppy number has great variations. Blaaze's rap is the highlight of this song. Apart from this, the way the song ends is really awesome. "yen idhayam udaithai norungave? en maru idhayam tharuven nee udaikave!!!".
Omana penne - This song is one that captures your heart instantly. Watch out for the part sung by a female singer. That has classical touch to it. The part which I liked the most in this song is when the singer sings the lines, "oru parvai, siru parvai uthirthal uthirthal pizhaipen pizhaipen!"
This song will be liked by everyone whatever may be their preference/taste in music.
Anbil avan - This is another peppy number. This somehow reminds me of 'marangothiye' song from A Ah. There's a part where you hear christian music. Soon you hear nadaswaram music. Good fusion!
Kannukul kannai - Another peppy number sung by Naresh Iyer. Loved the lines, "un nanban illai; nan vanin nila... un nanban illai; nee en uyirin vizha!".
Aromale - A very different attempt. I liked it after repeated hearing. 'swasthi swasthi' part is captivating. Wish I could understand the malayam lyrics...
Vinnai thandi varuvaya - This is one song which I could'nt fall in love with even after repeated hearing till now... But I must admit that I liked the ending part. Maybe, I should listen for few more times...

Overall, its a very good album. Don't compare it with any other album in the past. This one is stunningly very different and very fresh. You have to trust Rahman fully. He never disappoints you :)saranyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03868780570097925258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6069999164462714928.post-78289115926436651402009-11-21T12:43:00.000-08:002009-11-21T13:32:12.078-08:00My imaginary story 2 - It's all fateNothing went right for Sathish since morning. His dream was to get into the 'isoft' pvt ltd. He attended that interview in the morning. He did answer well in the interview. But, unfortunately, the manager selected another candidate who had a strong recommendation from the local M.L.A instead of selecting the much talented Sathish. To add to this disappointment, his mom called him in the afternoon and reminded him that the last day to pay for the debt is 24th of that month. Sathish was aware of the fact they will have to lose their home if they fail to return the debt amount within 24th.And Sathish had no idea about what he was going to do to get rid of all his problems. "Why am I so unlucky?" , he thought to himself. Just then he realized that it was 3 o clock and he hadn't yet had his lunch. He walked into the nearby restaurant and ordered limited meals. Something caught his eye while he was eating. It was a cellphone. The person who was eating in the nearby table should have missed it. He took it. He wanted to hand it over to its owner. He switched it on. He could see a person's photo in the mobile screen. It must be the photo of its owner. 2 minutes later, the cellphone started ringing. Sathish attended the call. "Hello sir!", the voice at the other end shouted. "Hello! Actually, this is Sathish...", Sathish said. But before he could complete the sentence, the voice at the end said, "Sir! One very good news. PVG pvt ltd have agreed for the deal and so we are going to get a profit of 1 crore rupees, sir!". That's all. The call ended. Stupid airvoice network coverage! The call ended abruptly due to it. Another 2 minutes went. A message came to that cellphone. It was from Kavitha. Out of curiosity, Sathish opened the inbox and read that message- " Ram,I love you too. U will be wondering y I said no yesterday. When u asked suddenly, I din't know what to reply. But, now I have decided. I wanna marry u. :) ". "What a lucky guy he is! First, there was a call telling about 1 crore profit and now a message from his girl friend saying that she is ready to marry him. Why don't I have at least half of his luck?", Sathish said to himself. Saying this, he left the restaurant. He was on the way to his home. Just then, an unexpected thing happened. A car collided with a lorry in front of his eyes. Sathish stopped his bike and got down from it. He went near the car and looked inside. He was shocked to see the face of the person inside the car. It was the face which he saw in the mobile. The man was still alive, but he was in an unconscious state. He called the ambulance immediately. Ram was admitted in the nearby hospital. The doctor came out of the operation theatre and said that there's an urgent need for AB -ve blood and there's no stock of it in the hospital blood bank. Since Sathish himself had the same blood group, he said that he is ready to give his blood. An hour later, Sathish was informed that the operation was successful. But, Ram hasn't yet gained consciousness. Sathish saw his dad's number in the cellphone, called him and informed him about the accident. His dad rushed to the hospital. He saw Sathish and thanked him for saving his son's life. By that time, Ram regained his consciousness. His dad explained him what had happened and told him how Sathish had saved his life. Ram too thanked Sathish and told his dad that they need to do something in return. Ram's dad offered a job in his company. "Come to isoft pvt ltd tomorrow. You are appointed as the general manager there", said Ram's dad. Sathish was shocked. It was his dream to work in that company. He became so happy and thanked Ram's dad for offering the job. In the afternoon he was grumbling for being so unlucky. But, now Sathish could not believe his own fortune. A sudden turn of events within 3 hours of time! That's luck. You never know when the lady luck smiles at you!saranyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03868780570097925258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6069999164462714928.post-1519550070175511872009-10-19T10:58:00.000-07:002009-10-19T11:24:59.998-07:00Music and me - part 2In this post, I am going to list 2 more songs which are not so popular among non-rahmaniacs.

sithirai nilavu - vandicholai chinnarasu

Many of you may not know that ARR has composed music for the film 'vandicholai chinnarasu'. But, many of you may have heard the song 'senthamizh naatu thamizhachiye' which is very famous for its lyrics. But, my pick of the album is 'sithirai nilavu' song. Its a soul-soothing melody. This song gives you a feel similar to what you get when a gentle breeze touches you in a pleasant morning.

Theekuruviyai - kangalal kaidhu sei

Kangalal kaidhu sei album is one of the masterpieces of Rahman. But, it is sad that it remains as one of the most under-estimated albums of ARR. I enjoy each and every song in this album. But, 'theekuruviyai' is my most favorite song in this film. Harini has sung the song very well. Forget about picturization (I virtually cried when I saw the song on TV. Very bad picturization x-( ) But, the song is just awesome. Kudos to the writer for penning lyrics for such a complex tune.

PS: I know nothing about music. Most of them were composed by A.R.Rahman. In this post, Im going to write about two of my favourite songs.

1. I miss you da
This song from Sakarakatti went almost unnoticed because it was overshadowed by another song from the same album. Taxi taxi was the massive hit of the year and was clearly the most favourite song of the album for many people. But, my personal favourite is 'I miss you da'. Frankly speaking, I disliked this song on my first hearing. But, on repeated hearings, I fell in love this song and this song turned out to be my most favourite song in that album.Rahman has tried a different genre and has succeeded in giving a trendy song. Who would have expected chinmayi to sing a song like this? But she has sung it so beautifully, giving the right feel to the song. This song captures the feelings of a girl who misses her sweetheart. I especially loved the line, "Fm il kadhal padal ketkum bothu........". I was happy about the fact that they show only Vedhika in this song and not the other heroine whom I disliked.

2.Porkalam ange
This is another song which went unnoticed. This song from Tenali sung by Srinivas and Gopika Poornima is one of my all time favourite songs. This is a sweet, melancholic melody with some great lyrics. Again, the female singer has given the right feel to the song. I loved the part when the male and female singers sing together the lines: "unnai engu pirikiren? unakul dhane vazhkiren. Anbil unnai alakiren. Anichai seyalai ninaikiren". I also loved the line, "unaku piditha ulagam vangi unnai angu vaikiren. Nimidam nimidam kanavil ninaivil kudithanam nan seigiren." The song ends on a happier note with the lines, "porkalam illai, poovil kayam illai. Punnagai theevil uyirum thevai illai."

saranyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03868780570097925258noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6069999164462714928.post-50868720459572916272009-01-31T11:40:00.000-08:002009-02-02T11:48:12.365-08:00Rahman and Oscar
I am writing this 22 days prior to the announcement of Oscar award results. Feb 22nd is a red-letter day for all Rahman fans. The maestro is all set to grab the Oscar award. At this point, one question arises in everyone's mind. Is SDM the best composition of ARR? Has he not done better albums in the past? Can SDM stand near his own masterpieces like Roja and Dil se?

The problem with ARR is that he has achieved everything very early. The dream of any composer in Indian film industry will be to win a national award. And, Rahman got it in his debut film. Not just once. He received the national award for 5 times. He has set a high standard for himself. People tend to compare each and every composition of Rahman with his own compositions like Roja and criticise him unnecessarily. But, frankly speaking, even his worst composition will be better than the compositions of an average composer. A batsman can't hit a century in every match, right? The same applies to music also. But, we must feel happy for the fact that he has continued to delight us with his soulful numbers even after 18 years. It is not easy to be consistent like him.

SDM is really good. But, its definitely not his best. SDM may not deserve Oscar. But, Rahman surely deserves it. He deserves it for what he has done to Indian music. He deserves it for giving mind-blowing numbers all these years. He deserves it for making the life of millions of his fans pleasant with his music. He is the one who revolutionised Indian music and took it to the next level. As Rahman himself said, he has to win it for India. I wish him all the best. Jai ho, Rahman! :)saranyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03868780570097925258noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6069999164462714928.post-83440022308448286632008-12-31T09:09:00.000-08:002009-02-02T11:16:48.842-08:002008 was great! Now, another year has passed by and what a delightful year it has been for me! 2008 was an eventful year in my life with a lot of lessons learnt, different experiences and sweet memories to cherish.
2008 was a year which I will not easily forget. It was in this year I changed myself a lot. The year 2008 completely changed my attitude towards certain things. I started to look at the positive aspects of things. I learned to respect others' thoughts and actions and started observing only good things in people!
2008 also brought me good fortune in several aspects. It was in this year I got my new mobile and more importantly my scooty pep +. :) I also got new, good friends.Topping all these pleasant things, another significant event occurred. I crossed gp 9 for the first time and it brought me boundless joy. There were a lot of reasons to smile in this year. There were a lot of reasons to celebrate... Sachin Tendulkar broke Lara's record and proved that he is the best in the current era. Bgm and two of the songs of A.R.Rahman (from Slumdog millionaire) have been nominated for oscar. He rocked in Ghajini. These two men once again proved how great they are and made a happy and proud fan. What else should I ask for? Im satisfied with whatever happened in this year. Though, there were few incidents which were unpleasant, the other happier incidents make me forget those...
Im beginning the new year hoping that this will be as pleasant and memorable as the last year or may be, more pleasant than 2008. 2008 was great... Sachin Tendulkar added another feather to his cap by rewriting Lara's record and brought happiness to all his fans around the world. Sachin Tendulkar is now the leading run scorer in test cricket! It's an early Diwali gift from the master blaster. This is not an ordinary feat. Congrats Sachin! We need more from u. :)
Here's the video:

Nice quote from Sachin: "People throw stones at u.... I admire him not only for his talent but also for his humility and character. One thing in the world which can make me get excited instantly is a good knock by Sachin. I started watching cricket when I was in 1st std. At that time, even Ganguly and Dravid were not there in the team. Sachin Tendulkar was the only match-winner and people used to switch off the television sets once Sachin got out (even now, I do that... ;) ) .
Whenever I think about Sachin, one innings which immediately comes to my mind is his 75 ball 98 against Pakistan in 2003 world cup. He played a wonderful despite a leg injury. That innings clearly proves that HE IS NOT SELFISH.
And I like whatever he does. I get excited even when he bowls. And when I think about his bowling, one thing comes to my mind is the moment when he bowled out Moin khan in the last delivery of the day's play in Multan test,2004. Wow! I could'nt believe my eyes. That can also be stated as one of the turning points of the match! here's the video:

I seriously wonder how people can hate and talk ill about a person whom they had loved the most once upon a time. Probably, those people will have short-term memory loss. Also some say that India loses whenever Sachin hits a ton. How foolish!!! Cricket is played by a team of 11 players. If other players fail, it is not Sachin's fault.
Recently, I found a website which gives clear-cut evidences to prove that the critics of Sachin are wrong. A great website! Here's the link: http://www.sachinandcritics.com/index.php
Also, here's another which tells why Sachin is the greatest cricketer of all time. http://www.orkut.co.in/CommMsgs.aspx?cmm=23803&tid=2523809526456328102
The statements of the critics don't matter at all. He has got the most number of records. Some are born to break the records. But, records are born to be broken by Sachin. There may arise a situation many years later when Sachin's records will be broken by someone else. It may happen. That person will realise how difficult it is to achieve such a feat. There lies Sachin's greatness...saranyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03868780570097925258noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6069999164462714928.post-26170630357938250252008-09-11T06:37:00.000-07:002009-02-03T07:36:15.882-08:00Copy cat Harris JeyarajWatch this hilarious interview of Harris. September 10!!! This is the day when the quarterly exams usually begin in schools. So, on my every b'day, I used to have exam during my school days... But I have never really felt for it... Now, I am in college. I thought that I can enjoy my b'days here after. But what to do? Now, I have internals instead.Today, I had two internals. Those 2 were the subjects in which I had scored low marks last time :( . I sincerely prayed that I should do well today. Thank God! I did them better than last time. :)
Coming to my interests, I like listening to music and Im a die-hard fan of A.R.Rahman. He is the one who revolutionised the Indian music and definitely there is some magic in his music. His songs are like slow poison and they keep haunting me. :)
I love to watch cricket, especially when Sachin Tendulkar bats. Obviously, he is my favourite cricketer. I think he is an all-time great cricketer and he can be rated next only to Sir Don Bradman...
I have found many similarities between Sachin and Rahman. The most important one being their humility. I wonder whether their greatness gives them humility or their humility makes them even greater. Both started their career in the early 90's and they have been role models to a lot of youngsters. I am proud to be their fan.... :)saranyahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03868780570097925258noreply@blogger.com0
